Ballet  

Ballet - The theatrical dance of occidental culture that is presented in an artistically stylized form. Ballet has a rich historical background founded from the Italian and French Royal Courts that has popularity and high regard through its many facets and years.

In a classroom and learning context, the current ballet is based on the five schools of French, Italian, Danish, Russian and English styles. It begins with barre work, gradually warming the body for centre work such as pirouettes, adage, allegro and pointe. Ballet is well known for its physically and visually stimulating appeal.

Ballet helps poise, posture, physique, musicality and most of all is challenging and fun!

Tap      
Tap dancing’s distinguishing feature is the rapid tapping of the toes and heels on the floor – for which the shoes are specially fitted with metal cleats. It gained great popularity on the variety stage and through the early musical films. Tap dancing challenges rhythm, body movement, and performance style. Learn tap to popular tunes in a fun, motivating and positive environment!

 Jazz      
The roots of Jazz dance extend back to some of the earliest African Americans who took aspects of African dance and developed a style of movement which has evolved into the energetic, dynamic, rhythm-based dance style we see in the Broadway shows, movies and music videos of today. Jazz dancers require the same type of technique, strength and flexibility that are essential to Ballet, but move in a more free and modern way. From the basic turns, leaps and progressions, to the uniquely styled choreography, Jazz dance is sure to inspire and excite students and audiences of all kinds. Learn how to move your hips and body to groovy tunes!

Hip Hop      
Hip Hop is at the forefront of popular dance culture. Hip Hop is a cultural movement that began among African Americans in New York City in the early 1970’s and has since spread around the world. This style appeals to mainstream audiences and has developed into numerous styles including krumping, break dancing, liquid dancing, locking and popping, robot, tutting and uprock, to name a few. This type of dance encourages students to use their bodies in ways that encourage many different stylistic techniques. Hip Hop is fast paced and challenging, allowing students to demonstrate and improve their creative rhythmic talent. Come and get your groove on!

National Dance      
National classes consist of learning popular or traditional dances from different countries around the world.  Students will be learning dances from Europe which are usually done in groups and/or partners.  There will also be class discussions on various topics about each country such as: geography, famous landmarks, customs, music, dance styles and national costumes.  The focus of each class is to learn about a European country and its culture in a fun and energetic environment!
