Ballet -
The theatrical dance of occidental culture that is
presented in an artistically stylized form. Ballet has a
rich historical background founded from the Italian and
French Royal Courts that has popularity and high regard
through its many facets and years.
In a classroom and
learning context, the current ballet is based on the
five schools of French, Italian, Danish, Russian and
English styles. It begins with barre work,
gradually warming the body for centre work such as
pirouettes, adage, allegro and pointe.
Ballet is well known for its physically and visually
stimulating appeal.

Tap |
|
|
|
|
Tap dancing’s distinguishing feature is
the rapid tapping of the toes and heels on the floor –
for which the shoes are specially fitted with metal
cleats. It gained great popularity on the variety stage
and through the early musical films. Tap dancing
challenges rhythm, body movement, and performance style.
Learn tap to popular tunes in a fun, motivating and
positive environment! |

Jazz |
|
|
|
|
The roots of
Jazz dance extend back to some of the
earliest African Americans who took aspects of African
dance and developed a style of movement which has
evolved into the energetic, dynamic, rhythm-based dance
style we see in the Broadway shows, movies and music
videos of today. Jazz dancers require the same type of
technique, strength and flexibility that are essential
to Ballet, but move in a more free and modern way. From
the basic turns, leaps and progressions, to the uniquely
styled choreography, Jazz dance is sure to inspire and
excite students and audiences of all kinds. Learn how to
move your hips and body to groovy tunes! |

Hip Hop |
|
|
|
|
Hip Hop is at the forefront of popular
dance culture. Hip Hop is a cultural movement that began
among African Americans in New York City in the early
1970’s and has since spread around the world. This style
appeals to mainstream audiences and has developed into
numerous styles including krumping, break dancing,
liquid dancing, locking and popping, robot, tutting and
uprock, to name a few. This type of dance encourages
students to use their bodies in ways that encourage many
different stylistic techniques. Hip Hop is fast paced
and challenging, allowing students to demonstrate and
improve their creative rhythmic talent. Come and get
your groove on! |
